At last the snow is here – and the garden once again looks tidy, covered as it is in a blanket of the white stuff. I say ‘at last’ because I quite like the snow. It’s fresh clean look and the biting cold. Although it’s about -5 C here it’s nowhere near the ridiculous temperatures that the Northern U.S. and Canada are experiencing from the polar vortex. I look at it and wonder if it will come over here?
Life has been impacting on life again and following all the stress and madness in the run up to Christmas I found myself a guest in the local hospital undergoing emergency surgery for a kidney stone that had caused my kidney to swell up. As a result I had a stent stuffed in side me which is mildly uncomfortable. The seriousness of the situation was lost on me until the Doctor explained it was either the surgery or the kidney – and only having one the choice was not overly difficult. So I have been convalescing for a few days while my body overcomes the general anaesthetic and adjusts to having a foreign body jammed into it.
The whole experience of course got me thinking about death (and life) and how I have been kinda wasting it a bit. Sure I work and pay taxes and look after my wife and my dog – but that’s about it. Apart from that I don’t do much else. So I am making a list of things to do. Call it a bucket list if you like, although all of these things are very doable and not extravagent.
- Take more photographs – that means getting out there
- Write more – here
- Make more movies and fly more
- Write letters to people and share books
- Read more – with my Kindle I have no excuse (eyesight is not what it once was)
- Smoke a pipe
The majority of these seem to be (at least to me) in the creative arena and also a bit vague in terms of intention – but it will become clearer. In the meantime the is just the online journal of no one in particular. Smoking a pipe? Why not?
